Delta Chi Yearly Reflection

For the Delta Chi Fraternity, this school year has been a success in both community service and philanthropy. For community service, we continued our partnership with Downtown BG. This involved helping monitor crosswalks and giving directions for events such as the Halloween and Christmas parades, along with the car show each summer. We also held two canned food drives within our chapter, around Thanksgiving and Easter to donate to St. Thomas More Church. This resulted in over 500 cans being donated. Recently, we have partnered with the Wood County Committee on Aging to serve meals to the elderly throughout the week.

At the start of the school year, we decided to join the Adopt a Highway program. Our mile long section is located on Route 6 and our entire chapter has cleaned up this stretch numerous times this year. We have continued to be active participants in both Relay for Life and Dance Marathon each year. As of April 8th, our total community service hours for the year are 619 hours. In regards to philanthropy, we continue to support our given charity, The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.

When the weather is nice, we continue to have “Ball on the Run.” This is a mini basketball-shooting contest, where participants donate money to make the most shots in 30 seconds, with a chance to win a Chipotle gift card. We brought back the “3v3 for Jimmy V” outdoor basketball tournament in the fall, which hosted both men’s and women’s brackets. In the winter, we had our annual Sweetheart campaign to crown a woman who best represents our fraternity. This spring, we hosted “Date a Delta Chi”, which gave ladies a chance to bid on us for a date. We also will be selling carnations on our Founder’s Day later this month. As of April 8th, we have raised over $2,000 dollars for the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research this year.
