Progressing Forward After 65 Years on Campus

Recruitment went extremely well this fall. This was the best semester of recruitment we have had in over 5 years. We were able to gain 28 new members from Formal and 5 from informal for a total of 33. This has brought our chapter above 80 men and the largest on campus. Many of the new members are already involved outside of SigEp participating in multiple philanthropies like Phi Psi's Raft Race and applying for scholarships in the community. This was our 65th year on campus so homecoming weekend was a special celebration for the chapter. On Friday night a distinguished alumni, Jack Rex, took all the 5th year seniors out for drinks for their work towards the chapter. We had our annual homecoming meeting with our AVC (alumni board) on Saturday morning per usual and then had a banquet room rented out at the Best Western for all SigEp current members and alumn to join in the festivities and celebration. All SigEps proceeded to tailgate and enjoy the brotherhood. Three SigEp members, Joe Lampton, Dan Phillips, and Landon Watts, were invited to join President Mazey in the presidential box suite as well as guests. This summer Sigma Phi Epsilon held its national convention, Conclave, in Nashville, Tennessee. This convention is held every 2 years and is always in a different location. Brothers Landon Watts and Devin Aller attended the event with our AVC President, Ron Parthemore. The convention was held for 5 days with the motto "Believe". It was an excellent way to meet with other chapters and members from Nationals to find effective ways to better the chapter. During the event over $300,000 was raised for our outgoing Grand President, Phillip A. Cox, for his new program geared towards training alumni after college to help the chapter.

This is a very exciting time for SigEp. After a great recruiting process so far that still had another semester to go the sky is the limit in terms of membership. We are looking forward to our house to have brick added to it off Wooster St. We are fortunate enough to be the only fraternity with an 18 man house, the largest on campus. One of your members, Dan Phillips, just got done with his campaign for mayor of Bowling Green which we are very proud of. He brought much needed attention to the students at BGSU and multiple off-campus housing issues. Our nationals have close eyes on us for all the accomplishments we have made in the past year and we are looking forward to a very bright future.
